There is time until Monday, 26 October to take part in “Latte di Natale”, the drawing competition that Latteria Sociale di Chiuro has been organising for primary schools in the Province of Sondrio since 2009. The theme of the 18th edition is “Music is…”.
Children are therefore invited to complete the sentence with a drawing, showing what music means to them: a choir, an instrument, a celebration, a moment shared with classmates or family. The competition guidelines place particular emphasis on the collective dimension of making music: singing or playing together as an exercise in listening, respecting other people’s timing and sharing responsibility.
As always, the overall winning drawing will be printed on the one-litre cartons of Latteria’s fresh whole milk, which will be available in shops throughout the province during the Christmas season.
As in previous editions, the competition is open to all classes, from Year 1 to Year 5, at primary schools throughout the province. Entries may be submitted by individual pupils, groups or entire classes; in every case, the prize is awarded to the class.
Drawings must be created on the official entry form, in a vertical 9 x 22 cm format, corresponding to the size of one side of the milk carton. Comic strips and written text are not permitted within the drawing, although each child may give their work a title in the space provided. Entries must be grouped by class and accompanied by the participation form completed by the teacher.
Entries must be received by Monday, 26 October 2026, either by post (Latteria Sociale Cooperativa di Chiuro, via Nazionale 23/A, 23030 Chiuro) or delivered by hand to the Latteria shop at via Stelvio 18, Chiuro. The judging panel will meet the following day, Tuesday, 27 October.
The competition rules and entry forms are available HERE.
There are five main prizes, one for each school year, worth €350 each. The prize will be awarded by bank draft made out to the class, which will be free to use the money for educational materials or activities. From among the five winning drawings, the jury will select the overall winner, whose artwork will appear on the Christmas edition of the fresh milk carton.
Drawings will be assessed on originality, quality of execution and relevance to the theme.
All drawings received, not only the winning entries, will be published on www.lattedinatale.it. In 2021, a record-breaking year for the competition, 4,025 entries were submitted.
The new feature for 2026 is the special “Insieme, una storia” award, supported by Fondazione Pro Valtellina. After completing their drawings, each class may also submit one text, no longer than one page, describing what they gained from working together: ideas, challenges and discoveries. For Year 1 classes, teachers will transcribe the children’s thoughts. Here too, five prizes will be awarded, one for each school year, worth €200 each.
“This year, we are starting from something children already do together at school: singing, playing music and preparing a performance,” explains Matilde Robustelli Della Cuna, Head of Sustainability and Communications at Latteria di Chiuro. “We are interested in seeing how they express this through a drawing and, thanks to the award supported by Fondazione Pro Valtellina, also through a text written together.”
